Contributions to ECFA members grew 2.2% in 2015, compared to 5.0% growth in 2014

ECFA has announced their 2016 State of Giving Report. Based on data from 1,816 member organizations, cash contributions in 2015 grew 2.2% year over year. Noncash giving grew by 7.5%.

Illustrating the diversity of the nonprofit community, the changes for 27 different sectors are listed separately. A few highlights for the 2015 and 2014 change:

  • 2015 – 2014 – sector
  • 8.4% – 11.2% – adoption
  • 21.2% – (6.9%) –  camps and conferences
  • 7.0% – 8.6% – child sponsorship
  • 4.0% – 4.2% – missions – international
  • (0.3%) – 1.7% – missions – domestic
  • 25.2% – 2.3% – missions – short-term (yes, there are enough mission organizations in ECFA to break them into three categories)
  • 6.5% – 3.3% – pregnancy resource centers
  • (14%) – 8.0% – relief and development
  • 3.6% – 4.5% – rescue missions

Report also breaks out the change by size of organization. A few data points:

  • 2015  –  2014 – size
  • (1.1%) – 0.1% – under $1 million
  • 6.5% – 2.0% – $1M to $5M
  • 4.6% – 5.4% – $25M to $50M
