Yet another embarrassing tech error – sending a text message to the wrong person

Double check who is getting your texts.

We’ve all heard the stories of hitting ‘reply all’ instead of ‘reply’ when discussing something in an e-mail that shouldn’t go to ‘all’.

Here’s a new oopsie I learned about personally but at low cost.

My son and I were texting back and forth last night about a $2 jump in crude prices at the end of the day. Later in the evening a colleague texted to set up a phone call for today.

So, I get up this morning and see crude prices have slid, confirming stories yesterday that it was traders closing out options that caused the spike. Thus we see a drop this morning that I was expecting. Cool.

So I dash off a text to my son commenting on the $3.50 rise and $1.50 drop.

Only my messaging was still set for a reply to my colleague. Shared with him my wise insight on crude oil trading trends.

Oops.

Fortunately, my colleague will merely be bored with my observations on commodity prices. Sent him a quick apology. Then sent the message where I wanted.

Lesson learned:  be very careful on making sure your texts are going to whom you intended.
