Tax questions for religious NPOs and short answers

The Federal Taxation class at Maranatha Baptist Bible College, led by Professor Corey Pfaffe, CPA, has begun writing short Q&As posts on tax issues of interest to church, religious NPOs, pastors, and missionaries.

You can find the comments at MinistryCPA.

I recommend you bookmark the site.  Even better, add it to your RSS reader so you can see the posts as released.  Looks like it will be a good resource for the NPO community. There are 7 posts in April and already 7 more in May.

Just a few of the topics:

Missionary’s home church provide a gift directly instead of a support check to the sending agency. Is it taxable?

Is there an ‘opt in’ option for ministers of the gospel that have opted out of Social Security?

Can an NPO give a charitable receipt for the donation of office space from a generous supporter?

The last question is one I receive often. Wish the class had put an exclamation point on the answer.

As always, after you read their posts, do your own research and consult with your professional advisor.  Having said that, the site is a great research tool.
